When it was released in 1983 the Nissan Micra took the motoring world somewhat by surprise. At the time super minis were not very popular, so producing one seemed like a bold move especially for a company like Nissan. However, it quickly became a popular car. More than 2 million of them were built in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear between 1992 and 2010 alone.

The Micra is sold across the globe. In Latin America and Asia it is badged as the Nissan March and in North America as the Nissan Versa.
